It’s the beginning of the 2024-25 school year, which means a new crop of students arriving on campus, new connections beginning to blossom, and a very old hellscape returning for the poor drivers of Corvallis (sorry, folks). And, excitingly: a new volume of PRISM to be made!
Leading the charge is our 2024-25 Editor-in-Chief, Brynne Boehlecke (she/they). Brynne is a 3rd year senior majoring in Creative Writing and minoring in Indigenous Studies and German, and the Vice President of the Student Literary Club. I (Shoshana Groom, she/her) am a 5th year senior majoring in sociology and the Event Coordinator of the Creative Writing Society, and I am thrilled to be our 2024-25 Assistant Editor.
Brynne and I first became involved with PRISM as volunteers during the 2023-24 school year, and we have big things in store for this journal we love. We’re excited to inherit an amazing organization from last year’s editors, Jiratana Tungkawachara and Jay Enghauser, and we want to continue PRISM’s legacy of being a hub for student art and artists across campus. We’ll be hosting collaborations with student organizations, creating more opportunities for students to make and share their art, starting conversations about the arts through our podcast and blog, and, of course, creating an amazing literary and art journal to share with the community!
But we can’t do it alone. PRISM has a long history of working closely with a team of volunteers who contribute to the local art scene while gaining valuable publishing experience, and this year will be no exception. If you’re interested in reviewing submissions, writing blog posts, recording podcasts, or contributing to the many events PRISM hosts each year, we would love to connect with you! Our first volunteer meeting will be held from 5-6pm on Wednesday, October 2nd, in room 402 of the Student Experience Center; it will be an excellent opportunity to learn more about volunteering with PRISM. In addition, our Discord can be joined here. We hope to hear from you!
And, of course, we can’t have a literary and art journal without literature and art! If you’re an artist of any sort and interested in submitting your creations for publication, keep an eye on our Instagram and blog for updates on our submission period, which will begin in early October. We look forward to seeing what we can create together!
