Oregon State’s Newest Student: Winnie the Pooh
Winnie the Pooh has a cozy dorm room with his roommate Piglet in McNary Hall. He requested a room that looked upon a tree, but he unfortunately didn’t receive one. Pooh majors in nutrition so that he can think about food all day long, although he often disagrees with his professors. Honey is a balanced meal after all.
Pooh starts his day by having a lovely conversation with himself in the mirror while deciding what red shirt to wear. No pants means one less decision. The Oregon State University administration has its own thoughts on the matter but has decided to remain quiet. Pooh has his own way of expressing himself.
For breakfast, Pooh considers braving the elements and going to the dining hall but ultimately opts for yogurt and granola with extra honey in his dorm. When Pooh goes to class, Piglet goes with him— Piglet doesn’t like to be in the room alone, and Pooh needs someone to talk to during the walk. The last time he went without Piglet, he took a bit of a nap outside the Learning Innovation Center. All he said on the detour was, “Oh, bother.”
Pooh tends to take his lunch with him to class as he doesn’t like attempting to walk too far without at least a little snack. He enjoys his lunch in the Memorial Union quad, under a large tree that reminds him of home. While he’s munching on his sandwich of peanut butter and honey, he watches the clouds pass. The clouds balloon and bob, some taking the form of buzzing bees, and others oddly reminiscent of kites. Pooh won’t leave his spot under the tree until the clouds take the shape of Heffalumps and Woozles.
Back in his dorm, Pooh sits at his desk trying to recall what homework he needs to do. He sits and thinks, thinks, thinks until it eventually comes to him when Piglet turns on his lamp. After solid minutes of trying to complete his discussion post, he calls over his friend Owl from across the hall. If Pooh knows anything, it’s that asking for help from a friend is never a bad idea.
Even when the days get colder and the early darkness tries to creep into Pooh’s stuffing, he manages by keeping his friends close, wearing his little blue scarf, and drinking some (honey) soup for dinner. No matter how many “Oh, bother” Pooh throws out, he remains hopeful and will get up and do it all again tomorrow.
