Congratulations to all those who made it this far in the term. I know it’s been a rough ride for me as well. Seven weeks in is an accomplishment especially for new or transfer students who have little to no experience here on campus. Now more than ever, students are racking their brains to cram for upcoming finals and lectures on top of trying to stay social and warm on this cold campus. But not to fret, here comes the sun, with a comprehensive list of the best spots to curl up with a good book, a pile of homework a mile long, or a group of friends who say it’s time to “lock in” only to yap for hours. So, without further ado, here’s my favorite spots to study, talk, and read here at OSU.
Number Three: SEC (Student Experience Center) Lounge
Coming in at number three we have the wonderful and amazing SEC lounge. We’ve got comfy chairs, good social spots, and nice ambiance. I suggest coming to hang out just after dinner when most chairs are open, and the noise level is at a low buzz with groups coming and going. Not only do you get to experience a great view when you look up, but you can also enjoy the warm atmosphere of the community. Definitely stop by outside of decompressing to see what clubs are meeting within the center too. Personally, I sat here and read a lovely collection of poetry by Seamus Heaney and felt cozy and welcomed.
Number 2: Valley Library Third Floor
Now in second place is the Valley Library, more specifically, the third floor. This is a great place to study or hang out with friends for its common buzzing of students and the balcony that overlooks the round room. In general, the library is a great place to explore and gain motivation to tackle the onslaught of assignments piling up all the time. Whether by yourself or with a friend, studying here is a great way to spend your time. Working on some assignments while listening to the buzz of the people around you is like a free subscription to motivated working.
Number 1: MU (Memorial Union) Lounge
Coming in at the number one top spot is the big MU or Memorial Union. Which is pretty much the heart of the campus. It’s warm and welcoming to all students and makes a great place to create some memories. From the big quad where you can soak up some sun to the many cafes to feed all our caffeine dependencies, to the wonderful lounge; this space is truly perfect for studying, chilling, and hanging out with friends. That being said, anyone who is anyone will know that this is a hot spot, and many students flock to its floors for some much-needed motivation. So, I suggest getting in earlier in the morning or later in the evening. Securing a spot can be tricky, but if you swing by at just the right time, you’re bound to make some good memories and get loads of work done.
Now that you’ve read a little bit more about some of my personal favorite spots to read, study, and hang out on campus, I hope you feel a little bit better about the upcoming work as the term slowly comes to a close. Please let me know what you think and if you enjoy some of these great spots too, I hope to see you there. Have a great day and please enjoy some hot apple cider and a good novel for me. Bye!
